Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues part A

These reading notes are taken from the first half of Sita Sings the Blues, a free movie available on Youtube.

In the first few minutes of the movie, Lakshmi rises from the depths of an ocean with a phonograph. She begins it playing a blues song and dances until the record player gets stuck in a loop. She touches it and everything explodes... A scene begins in which we see the gods in the cosmos. First comes shiva dancing in a ring of fire; he has four arms, snakes for hair, and a crown of golden flame. He holds fire and maybe a small drum. Next appears Brahma; He has six heads with aged beards and each head wears a golden crown. He also has four arms, and holds a lotus and a book. He sits on a giant lotus which is coming out of Vishnu's belly button. We then see Vishnu relaxing, laying on his five headed serpent. On one of his fingers he holds up the solar system. In one hand, he holds a conch shell and in another he holds a lotus. On his head is a much more innate golden crown with numerous jewels. He wears a necklace of - you guessed it - lotuses. At his feet lays Lakshmi, his love and energy. With her two arms, she rubs his feet and looks at him lovingly. She wears much jewelry and not a whole lot of clothing. Zooming in on the solar system on vishnu's finger, we see the sun god, who rides a chariot drawn by 5 horses and the moon god who rides a chariot drawn by 2 deer. Both hold lotuses. Finally, we see Bhumi, who's large belly makes up the earth; in her four arms, she holds a conch, a branch with leaves, and some kind of ring around her finger.
